Missions and Service

Wesley participates in local, national, and international missions with enthusiasm!

LOCAL

Local missions usually occur once a month. During the Fall 2010 semester, service projects included letter-writing for Amnesty International, Trick-or-Treat-so-Kids-Can-Eat (October 31st), and participation in the Alternative Gift Fairs at W&M and Williamsburg UMC. Other projects this past Spring included Housing Partnerships (a local home repair program), nursing home visits, a food drive, and anything else that comes our way!

NATIONAL

Each Spring Break Wesley we go on a mission trip here in the USA, locations include North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Iowa, and the Gulf Coast.  Spring Break 2011 took us to Alabama to do home repairs and learn about how the legacy of the Civil Rights movement lives on today. These are awesome experiences of living in community, putting our faith into action and having a ton of fun.

INTERNATIONAL

Every year, Wesley goes international! Among our destinations in the past are the Bahamas, England, Mexico, and Russia to work in orphanages, help build up a United Methodist congregation in Pyatigorsk, and reach out to students at the local university. In 2009, a team made up of Wesley students, UVA students, local church members, and campus ministers traveled  to Israel and Palestine to both complete a pilgrimage and serve the people living there. This year we traveled in May 2011 to Costa Rica to help build a Methodist Church. We are traveling to Israel/Palestine in January 2012!  Check back here to see which way the breath of Spirit sends us.
