Missions and Service

Wesley participates in local, national, and international missions with enthusiasm!

LOCAL

Local missions usually occur once a month. During the Fall 2009 semester, service projects included letter-writing for Amnesty International, Trick-or-Treat-so-Kids-Can-Eat (October 31st), and participation in the Alternative Gift Fairs at W&M and Williamsburg UMC. Other projects this past Spring included Housing Partnerships (a local home repair program), nursing home visits, Jail Dogs (when we take dogs from the local animal shelter and visit the inmates at the regional jail), and anything else that comes our way!

NATIONAL

While Wesley has done mission in many parts of the USA (locations include North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Iowa), since 2006 we have gone to the Gulf Coast to assist in hurricane recovery in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.  Spring Break 2010 took us to Georgia to assist with flood recovery work.  Wherever we go, God will provide us many opportunities to do good!

INTERNATIONAL

Every year, Wesleyites go international! Among our destinations in the past are England and Mexico, and since 1995 multiple teams have traveled to Russia to work in orphanages, help build up a United Methodist congregation in Pyatigorsk, and reach out to students at the local university. In 2009, a team made up of Wesley students, UVA students, local church members, and campus ministers traveled  to Israel and Palestine to both complete a pilgrimage and serve the people living there. This year we traveled in May 2010 to the Bahamas and we anticipate traveling to Brazil in 2011 and Israel/Palestine in 2012!  Check back here to see which way the breath of Spirit sends us.
