This Week (9/5-9/11)
- Large Group: 1946Documentary Watch Party (9/7): Large Group this Sunday at 5:00 PM will be focused on watching 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture, a documentary by Sharon “Rocky” Roggio discussing the use of the term “homosexual” in the 1946 Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible due to a mistranslation. Thank you to Mike Finlan (and the Searchers Sunday school class from WUMC) for providing the food!
- Ryan’s Roaming Hours (9/9): Wesley’s campus minister, Ryan LaRock, will be at Column 15 in Swem from 11:30-1:30. Enjoy a chat about faith, school, and more with a complimentary coffee (or other sold drink of your choice) when you stop by! His roaming hours are now every Tuesday.
More Wesley Events and Announcements
- Small Group: Our SG leader Eira will be starting this semester’s Wesley Small Group weekly meetings next week on a date TBD. We are still figuring out what day of the week works best to meet, but it will likely be on Fridays. The focus will be on Marcus J. Borg’s Convictions: How I Learned What Matters Most, wherein Borg recounts what underscored the foundations for his faith: hope and transformation.
- Worship at Wesley!: We are still working on figuring out a date and time per week for our weekly services at Wesley this year. Worship services tend to last 30-45 minutes, with a sermon from Ryan, singing, scripture reading, and optional communion for all. We are looking to begin next week!
- Brandan Robertson’s Queer & ChristianBook Signing (9/18): Wesley is thrilled to be hosting the Reverend Brandan Robertson as a stop on his new book tour! Students, mark your calendar for this free event, and share with your friends! A book signing and light reception will follow!
- Volunteer at Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society (9/20): Wesley will be providing free lunch and transportation to all who want to join us as we volunteer at an animal shelter here in Williamsburg. Play with dogs and cats, bring them toys, and meet new friends on this awesome service opportunity!
