This Week (10/31-11/6)
- Over the Garden Wall Halloween Watch Party (10/31): No Halloween is complete without an annual rewatch of the hit Cartoon Network miniseries, Over the Garden Wall, and this year Wesley is hosting! We’ll have candycorn, popcorn, more apple cider, and plenty more pumpkin-themed treats for you to munch on while we binge watch Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice’s adventures from 6:00-8:00 PM in the fellowship hall.
- Volunteer at Prof. Sasi’s Farm (11/2): Help out at Spicy Kitchen Farms, a 10-acre regenerative farm in New Kent County run by Professor Sasi. We will help with some farm projects, learn some farm-to-table cooking and enjoy a fresh meal, and then discuss the importance of sustainable agriculture. We will leave the Wesley house at 11am and leave the farm at 2:30pm to return to Wesley. The time commitment should be about 11am to 3pm. Transportation provided!! SIGN-UP HERE!
- Large Group: Bennett (11/2): What does a year of full-time service look like? During large group on Sunday, Bennett Snyder, alumni and former president of Wesley, will share his experience with Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry (Bon Secours)(BSVM). BSVM provides the opportunity for young adults to participate in the Sisters of Bon Secours’s commitment to justice in radical solidarity with the poor and suffering through a year of full-time service, spiritual development, and simple living in either Richmond or Baltimore. Come by on Sunday to hear about Bennett’s experiences with the program and to take part in a snippet of what community and spiritual life with Bon Secours looks like. Meal is at 5:00, discussion at 6:00!
- Fairy Hair For A Cause! (11/3-11/7): Wesley will be tabling to raise money to buy shoes for children in Uganda! For just $10, you can get hair tinsel and provide a child with a brand-new pair of shoes. 100% of donations will go to Conservation Through Public Health centered in Uganda. Their goal is to protect endangered mountain gorilla populations by uplifting the local community! When and Where: Monday, Nov. 3 | 12:30-2 PM; Wednesday Nov. 5 | 2:15 - 3:15 PM; Friday Nov. 7 | 11 AM-2 PM (Sadler Atrium).
- Small Group: Marcus J. Borg (11/3): Our SG leader Eira is hosting this semester’s Wesley Small Group every Monday from 5:00-6:00 PM. The focus is on Marcus J. Borg’s Convictions: How I Learned What Matters Most, wherein Borg recounts what underscored the foundations for his faith: hope and transformation. This week’s chapter is number 9, “God Is Passionate About Justice and the Poor”.
- Ryan’s Roaming Hours (11/4): Wesley’s campus minister, Ryan LaRock, will be in Swem’s Column 15 from 11:30-1:30. Enjoy a chat about faith, school, and more with a complimentary coffee (or other sold drink of your choice) when you stop by! His roaming hours are now every Tuesday.
- Worship at Wesley! (11/4): Worship will be at 6:00 PM on Tuesdays at Wesley this year! Worship services tend to last 30-45 minutes, with a sermon from Ryan, singing, scripture reading, and optional communion for all; this year will have a more discussion-based focus.
